The Book of Songs and Confucian poetry ideas

Abstract

Lunyu has close relationship with the Book of Songs and people had a lot of discussion about them but they were relatively limited to cite poems and to use poems. Based on studies on the citation of poems and use of poems in Lunyu and emphasis on implied citation, this paper reveals the relationship between Confucius and the Book of Songs and the source of the Confucianists' poetry.
