Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy and perception of pain during subgingival scaling using PRME PRZH1ultrasonic system versus Suprasson P5newtron ultrasonic system. Methods Twenty patients with chronic periodontitis were debrided using both PRME PR-ZH1(group A)and Suprasson P5newtron(group B)ultrasonic system. The periodontal indices(PLI,PD and BOP),before and one month after subgingival scaling, and the time spent for subgingival scaling were recorded. The pain caused by the treatment was evaluated by VAS right after the procedure. Results The differences between the two groups(one month after treatment)were significant with regard to PLI,BOP and PD(t=5.57-20.82,P0.01),before treatment, the differences of the index were not significant(P0.05).The difference of time spent for the treatment between the two groups was not significant(P0.05).The VAS of group A was significantly smaller than that of the group B(t=3.02,P0.05).Conclusion Both therapeutic apparatus can get a satisfactory result for subgingival scaling, but PR-ZH1causes less pain.
