Abstract

Objective:To study iNOS expression in the rat retina that has been injured by ischemia-reperfusion.Methods:A retina model for ischemia-reperfusion was established by ligation of the common carotid artery in the SD rat. 60 SD rats were divided into two groups. Each group was then divided into six sub-groups according to differences in ischemia-reperfusion time. The SABC method was used to test iNOS expression in the rat retina.Results:At one hour after ischemia-reperfusion,no iNOS was expressed in the retina. After six hours of ischemia-reperfusion,there was some degree of iNOS expression in the retina. The highest level of expression was reached at twenty four hours after ischemia-reperfusion. The level then began to decrease,but there was evidence of iNOS expression in the retina seventy-two hours after ischemia-reperfusion injury.Conclusion:iNOS may play a very important role in ischemia-reperfusion injury in the rat retina.
