Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sotalol therapy, compared with propafenone therapy in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Methods:In a multicentre, randomized, parallel controlled trial,138 cases of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation after 2 weeks washout period, were randomly divided into the sotalol group(twice daily doses from 80 mg / day, depending on the circumstances, the amount increasing, the maximum dose of 320 mg/day.n=68) and propafenone group(three times a day,the dose from 450 mg/day,depending on the circumstances, the amount increasing, the maximum dose does not exceed 800 mg/day.n=70),The primary endpoint was to evaluate the total successful response rate to treatment at the end of 12 week treatment. Results:The randomized,parallel-group treatment of the total successful response rate to treatment of 12 weeks were 72.06% in the sotalol therapy group and 62.86% in in the propafenone therapy group, respectively. There were statistically significant difference between the sotalol therapy group and the propafenone therapy groups(P0.01).Adverse events rates were 8.82% in the sotalol therapy group and 18.57% in the propafenone group(P0.01).Conclusion:Sotalol in the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients with curative effect is obvious better than propafenone, and has the advantages of good safety
