Evaluation of Basic Indicators in Outpatient Prescriptions and Analysis of Rationality in Drug Use

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the drug use indicators in outpatient prescriptions in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and the irrationality of drug use so as to improve clinical rational drug use.METHODS: The results of prescription comment in our hospital from May 2010 to Oct.2011 were retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS: A total of 9 000 outpatient prescriptions were reviewed.An average of 1.95 drugs were prescribed per prescription.The percentages of encounters with prescribed antibiotics and injections were 24.78% and 14.68%,respectively.The percentage of drugs prescribed from essential drug 28.23%.The percentage of drugs prescribed in generic names was 99.78%.The average drug cost per prescription was 177.16 Yuan.The rates of qualified and irrational prescriptions were 90.57% and 9.43%,respectively.The majority of irrational prescriptions were non-standard ones,with irrational drug use prescriptions and off-label use prescriptions showing little proportion.CONCLUSION: The outpatient drug use in the hospital was rational on the whole;however,the utilization rate of national essential drugs and the rate of qualified prescriptions remain to be increased further.
