Utilization of Community Health Service and Related Factors

Abstract

Objective To understand the utilization of the community health service so as to seek and explore the causes of low level,weak capacity and poor attractiveness of community hospitals.Methods 25 communities were selected randomly from Lucheng District,Longwan District,Ouhai District of Wenzhou City for the survey.A survey was performed with self-designed questionnaires,which included demographic data,healthy status,utilization and needs for community health service.Meanwhile,field visits and individual interviews were conducted among the 7 community health service centers.Results 508 residents from the communities knew the community health service,accounting for 84.8%,and their way to know the service was happening to see it when coming across.The first three reasons why they choose the community health service were convenience,low cost and good service attitude,while the first three reasons why they do not choose the community health service were worry about their medical quality,knowing less about the community service and worry about the prices of the medicine.There was an imbalance between their needs and their utilization of the service:medication purchase,medical treatment and health examination accounted for 57.4%,46.2% and 25.5%,respectively,while health consultation,follow-up for chronic diseases,rehabilitation service and family sick beds for 10.6%,10.4%,1.7%,0.6% respectively.Conclusion It is urgent to publicize the importance,nature and connotation of community health service for the purpose of changing people's attitudes.Integration of existing health resources and establishment of the corresponding mechanisms can effectively enhance service capabilities of community health service.
