Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of glutathione S-transferase Pi(GST-Pi) different esophageal tissues and study its significance in the occurence and development of esophageal carcinoma. Methods S P immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of GST-Pi protein in 10 cases of normal esophageal epithelium, 10 cases of mild atypical hyperplasia epithelium, 20 cases of severe atypical hyperplasia epithelium and 40 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Results There was a declining tendency of the expression of GST-Pi protein from normal esophageal epithelium , mild atypical hyperplasia epithelium, severe atypical hyperplasia epithelium to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The expression rate of GST-Pi protein in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was evidently lower than those in normal esophageal epithelium and mild atypical hyperplasia epithelium, and the differences were significant(P0.01).Conclusion The GST-Pi may be closely correlated with the occurrence and development of esophageal carcinoma.
