Abstract

Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of limbal stem cell transplantation and human amniotic membrane transplantation in the treatment of pterygium. Methods Sixty-nine cases (87 eyes) with pterygium were divided into two groups.Group A:Thirty-four cases (42 eyes) were treated with limbal stem cell transplantation;Group B:Thirty-five cases (45 eyes) were treated with human amniotic membrane transplantation. Results All cases were followed up for 2 years.Forty eyes were cured (95.24%) and 2 eyes with recurrence (4.76%) in group A.Forty-one eyes were cured (91.11%) and 4 eyes with recurrence (9.89%) in group B.Conclusion Limbal stem cell transplantation and human amniotic membrane transplantation are effective in the treatment of pterygium.Recurrence rate is low. There is no significant difference between two methods in statistics.
