Abstract

Objective:To compare therapeutic efects between limbal stem cell transplantation and amniotic membrane transplantation for pterygium.Methods:62 eyes of 56 cases were randomly divided into 2 groups, one for limbal stem cell transplantation group (35eyes of 30cases) and one for amniotic membrane transplantation group (27eyes of 26 cases);6-12 months fellow-up data were obtained after the treatment.Results:1)in the group of limbal stem cell transplantation, the recurrence rate was 2.86%(1/35) and the wound healing time was 5.5 days;2)in the group of amniotic membrance transplantation, the recurrence rate was 22.22%(6/27) and the wound healing time was 8.0 days. Conclusion:For therapy of pterygium, the limbal stem cell transplantation is a safe and effective operation.
