Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of amniotic membrane transplantation compared with limbal stem cell treatment. Methods Eighty-five eyes with pterygium of 79 patients were divided into two groups:Forty-one eyes of 38 patients were treated by amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT) and other forty-one eyes of 44 patients by limbal stem cell transplantation respectively. The recovery time of the cornea and the recurrent rate were observed during the 12 to 18 months follow-up.Results The recovery time of the amnintic membrane trasplantation group was 3.45 days, five eyes(12.20%) showed recurrence after AMT.The recovery time of the limbal stem cell transplantation was 3.27 days, four eyes(9.09%) showed recurrence after treatment. Conclusions The effects of the two different treatments were similar.
