Abstract
Objective To investigate the change and significance of the reticulocyte multiple parameters and the reticulated platelets in late pregnant women with thalassemia. Methods Automated reticulocyte counting (6 parameters ) and the reticulated platelets(IPF%) have been measured in 39 late pregnant women with thalassemia who received genetic diagnosis with Sysmex XE-5000 auto-mated blood cell counter. 30 normal late pregnant women and 30 normal non-pregnant women were set as controls. The parameters included RET#, RET%, IRF%, LFR%, MFR%, HFR%. Results There were significant difference between the automated reticulocyte multiple parameters and the reticulated platelets in late pregnant women with thalassemia, normal late pregnant women and normal non-pregnant women(P0.05 or P0.01). RET#, RET%, IRF%, MFR%, HFR%, IPF% in late pregnant women with thalassemia were all obviously higher than the other 2 groups. Otherwise, LFR% were obviously decreased in late pregnant women with thalassemia compared to the other 2 groups. Conclusion In the double stimulations of the physiology and the pathology the hematopoietic function of bone marrow was more active in late pregnant women with thalassemia. The detections of the automated reticulocyte multiple parameters and the reticulated platelets in late pregnant women was helpful for finding out the thalassemia gene carriers, reduce and control the birth rate of the critically ill patients with thalassemia.
