Abstract
Objective To investigate the change of 6 reticulocyte parameters:reticulocyte percent(RET%),absolute reticulocyte count(RET#),immature reticulocyte fraction(IRF),low fluorescent reticulocyte(LFR),middle fluorescent reticulocyte(MFR) and high fluorescent reticulocyte(HFR) in pregnant women with thalassemia. Methods Reticulocyte counting(6 parameters) was measured automatically by Sysmex XE-2100 analyzer, then the results of pregnant women with thalassemia, normal pregnant women, healthy non pregnant women and non pregnant women with thalassemia were analyzed comparatively. Results The 6 reticulocyte parameters of pregnant women with thalassemia, normal pregnant women and healthy non pregnant women had significant difference. The levels of IRF,MFR,HFR in pregnant women with thalassemia and normal hemoglobin(Hb) were lower than those in mild and medium anemia, but LFR was higher than that in mild and medium anemia.4 parameters(RET%,IRF,MFR,HFR) with nornal Hb and mild anemia in pregnant women with mild β-thalassemia and normal Hb were higher than those in non pregnant women, the level of LFR in pregnant women was lower than that in non pregnant women. Conclusions Hematopoietic system responses in pregnant women with thalassemia is more stronger, and hematopoietic function is more active. The levels of IRF,MFR,HFR in pregnant women with β-thalassemia increase with the severity of anemia, but LFR decreases with the severity of anemia.6 reticulocyte parameters are more effective than RET in discovering thalassemia, and help to understand the hematopoietic function of bone marrow and the condition of body reaction to anemia.
