Abstract
Objective To investigate the dynamic-enhanced CT manifestations of splenic hemangiomas, and to discuss the diagnostic value of CT features. Methods A total of 13 cases with pathologically-confirmed splenic hemangiomas were enrolled in this study. Both plain and dynamic-enhanced CT scans were performed in all patients. The results were analyzed. Results A total of 16 lesions were detected in the 13 patients. On plain CT scan, the lesions presented as iso-density( n = 3) or low-density( n = 13) mass, round or oval in shape with sharp border, and no calcification was found in all lesions. Tri-phase contrast-enhanced CT scanning showed that the lesions were of hyper-density,and displayed various enhancement patterns in arterial phase, including complete homogeneous enhancement( n = 4),inhomogeneous enhancement( n = 2),lace-like edge enhancement( n = 3),ring-shaped enhancement( n = 1) and mild enhancement( n = 6). Of the13 patients, correct diagnosis was made in 12( 92. 3%). The disease was misdiagnosed as lymphoma in one patient. Conclusion Splenic hemangiomas have a variety of CT enhancement patterns. For CT diagnosis of atypical splenic hemangiomas, delayed scanning is particularly important. Iso-density enhancement of the lesion during delayed phase is characteristic manifestation of splenic hemangiomas.
