Comment on Lipset's Thought of Political Legitimacy

Lipset's interpretation of the political legitimacy of modern democracy focuses on the perspective of political sociology.He believes that political legitimacy and effectiveness are closely linked and influence each other.The continuing effectiveness of governance plays an important role in the promotion of political legitimacy and legitimacy crisis is a turning point in social change.The main causes of the legitimacy crisis lies in the new political system which lacks the capacity to accommodate the demands of emerging interest groups,new social structures,and existing and political systems.Political legitimacy can be improved by the development of political identity,inclusiveness of various types of political systems,and government efficiency etc.Lipset tries to examine the topics of political legitimacy and the design of political system in the value-based academic position,but is finally caught in American-centrism.Different countries must choose their own path of political development and models of political systems to continuously improve the level of political legitimacy and to promote the sound and orderly development of social and political system.
