Abstract

Objective To compare the placement success ratio, complication ratio,catheter-keeping time of external jugular vein and femoral vein in tumor patients, looking for the best way of relieving pain in vein chemotheapy for them. Methods A total of 71 fixed cases were divided into two groups randomly:A group were given catheter in external jugular vein;B group were given catheter in femoral vein. They all had the same catheter. Results The ratio of successful placement in external jugular vein and femoral vein was 91.42% and 75.00% respectively, complication ratio was 8.57% and 44.44% respectively, and percentage of cases kept catheter more than 10 weeks was 42.86% and 2.78% respectively. The statistical significance had been shown as compared between the two groups(P0.01).Conclusion It is safe and conwenient to place catheter in external jugular vein for tumor patients because of its high placement success ratio, low complication ratio and kept long in the chemotherapy.
