Expression of PCNA in diffuse gastric carcinoma

Abstract

Aim: To study the correlation of expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) with infiltration of the tumor and lymph node metastasis in diffuse gastric carcinoma. Methods: The expression of PCNA in 112 cases of diffuse gastric carcinomas was detected by immunohistochemistry (SP). Results;Of the 112 cases,96 cases(85. 7% ) showed PCNA positive expression. The PCNA positive rate in intramucosal and submcuosal tumors (28.6% ) was significantly lower than that in inserosal and extraserosal tumors (93.0%) (P 0. 05). The PCNA positive rate in the group with lymph node metastasis (82.0% ) was significantly higher than that without (34. 8% ) (P 0.05). The PCNA positive rate (94. 1% ) of lymph nodes metastasis equal to or more than 10,was significantly higher than that of lymph node metastasis less than 10 (42.9% ) (P 0.05). Conclusion:It is concluded that the detection of the PCNA protein by SP might be helpful in assessing the tumor progression, diagnosing the lymph nodes metastasis, and predicting the prognosis of the gastric carcinoma.
