Clinical comparison of two kinds of post and core repair residual crown and root in the maxillary anterior teeth

Objective To evaluate the effects of metal stakes and glass fiber post on the maxillary anterior residual root and crown residual crown and root.Methods All the patients with residual crown and root had been accepted consummate root canal therapy before the post and core crown restoration.195 cases were divided into two groups according to the different treatment.120 teeth were glass fiber post and the remaining 75 teeth were metal cast post.Postoperative follow-up at the 1st,3rd,6th,12th,18th,24th months,with the clinical visual observation and X-ray examination,the researchers recorded whether the post crown loose or broken.Results Through the regular clinical observation,all the integrity of porcelain crown's restoration with glass fiber post shows no fracture and loose,the gingival pigmentation and periodontal also showed the perfect performance.On the other hand,among the metal post restoration,4 cases appeared root fracture,2 cases appeared the post and core fall off and 9 cases had the gums pigmentatio around the edge of the teeth.Conclusion Compared with the metal post crown,the glass fiber post shows the perfect retention and stability.The latter was not easy to break and loose,and the root fracture rate was quite lower than the former.Meanwhile,the patients' aesthetic satisfaction and evaluation was higher than the metal post crown.
