A Study on the Expansion of Build-up Areas in Xuzhou Based on RS and GIS

Abstract

ERDAS and ARCGIS,MSS,TM,ETM and other software are adopted to study the expansion of build-up areas of Xuzhou City.The remote sensing images of Xuzhou city in 1979,1994 and 2000,and the 1:50000 topographic map are taken as the data source.They are classified to obtain the areas and directions of expansion,and the speed of different intervals in each year.Results show that the expansion of Xuzhou city can be divided into two intervals with the year 1994 as the demarcation line.From 1979 to 1994,the main expansion direction went southwest and southeast.From 1994 to 2000,it went southeast and southwest.Its expanding speed in 1994—2000 is greater than that in 1979—1994.
