The Research on Resource-Based City Spatial Expansion——A case study of Xuzhou

This paper took Xuzhou as research region which is a typical resource-based city in east of China.By integrating MSS,TM and SPOT images,topographic maps,history maps and other spatial data and using RS and GIS technology,the paper had extracted urban land use information of Xuzhou since 1949.According expansion intensity,fractal dimension,expansion direction,expansion pattern,etc,the paper analyzed urban spatial expansion temporal-spatial characteristics of Xuzhou,and discussed the urban spatial expansion driving forces including natural,economic and social factors.The results show that:(1) Urban expansion of Xuzhou built-up area is notable.Acreage of Xuzhou built-up has gone up to 161.54 km2 in 2007,which is 18.25 times more than it in 1949,while it was 8.39km2 in 1949.(2)The fractal dimensions of urban land use increased gradually.(3)Xuzhou built-up area expansion intensity is diverse in different direction and in different phases.(4)City spatial expansion is influenced by various factors,including natural,economic and social ingredients.
