Abstract

Former generations of scholars have made great achievements on the radicals in Shuo Wen Jie Zi with respect to their origin and arrangement. In recent years, some scholars create a new method for the study of Shuo Wen Jie Zi,namely, starting with radicals related to synonymy with semantic totality. The 24 characters with the radical Shou, which Xu Shen paraphrased as Chi,are analyzed from literal meaning to implied meaning.Their meanings, implications and regularity are compared;the former state of Chinese syllable duplication is revealed, thus providing data for the study of phrases with duplicated syllables.
