Abstract
Chinese characters are ideographic writing with unique word building and semantic structure.They are born out of rational thinking over record keeping symbols.Shuo Wen Jie Zi opens up a path to understanding the semantic,cultural and ideological meanings of characters by analyzing their form.A form study of the words under the radical of 囗(Wei) now reveal that meanings like defense,borderline,enclosure,vigilance,and expansion are buried deep in them.
