Observation on the Treatment Effect of Electroacupuncture for Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture at patellofemoral joint in treating knee osteoarthritis.Method Sixty-three patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group.The treatment group was intervened by electroacupuncture at patellofemoral joint,while the control group was by oral administration of Diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets.Treatment effect was observed after 20-day treatments.Result The recovery rate was 56.3% and total effective rate was 96.9% in the treatment group,versus 9.7% and 48.4% in the control group,and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P0.05).Conclusion The outcome indicates that electroacupuncture at pattelofemoral joint is superior to oral administration of Diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets in treating knee osteoarthritis with regard to the recovery rate and total effective rate.
