Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mental health status of university freshmen,and effectively improve the education and intervention of mental health among university students.Methods: University personality inventory(UPI)was used to investigate the mental health status of university freshmen in a university in Dali.Results: Generally,university freshmen were psychologically sound,but among which 17.4% was obviously obsessed by various psychological problems.Gender factors were important variables to affect student's scores in UPI.And the differences in campus and majors did not have statistical significance.A preliminary investigation revealed that 2.92% of freshmen had suicidal tendencies.University freshmen had an internal attribution to their academic achievements and interpersonal relationship.There was a significant correlative between students' personality factors and their attribution to academic achievements and interpersonal relationship.Conclusion: The condition of university students' mental health should not be ignored;universities should enhance the education of students' mental health and effectively strengthen the intervention to psychological problems.
