Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of serum cystatin C for the diagnosis of early renal impairment in elderly hypertension patients. Methods Of 42 healthy controls and elderly 86 essential hypertensive patients, which were divided into two groups with or without microalbuminuria. The data of serum Cystain C,urine microprotein(mAlb),serum creatinine(Scr) and GFR were obtained and analyzed. Results The level of Scr showed no significant differences of three groups(P0.05).The level of Cyst C in microalbuminuria group was higher than that in normoalbuminuria group and control group(P0.05).GFR serum of microalbuminuria group was lower than those in normoalbuminuria group and control group(P0.05).Cyst C and Scr levels of the elderly hypertensive patients had positive correlation with urinary mALB(P0.05).The correlation coefficient of Cyst C and urinary mALB(r=0.748) was higher than the correlation coefficient of Scr and urinary mALB(r=0.572).Conclusion Cyst C should be a sensitive indicator for early renal impairment of elderly hypertension patients.
