Cholecystectomy on elder patients:Open Cholecystectomy or Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Objective:To explore the safety of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for elderly patients.Methods:The clinic data of 86 elderly patients with chronic calculous cholecystitis undergoing cholecystectomy were retrospectively analyzed.All patients were divided into two groups according to the operation:open cholecystectomy group(OC group,n=42) and laparoscopic cholecystectomy group(LC group,n=44).Some clinical data such as operation time,blood loss,intestinal function recovery,postoperative complications,therapeutic effects and length of hospital stay were compared.Results:There were significant difference in operation time,blood loss,intestinal function recovery,length of hospital stay and incision complications between OC group and LC group(P 0.05).There were no significant difference in therapeutic effects and serious complications between OC group and LC group(P 0.05).Conclusions:LC and OC are also safe for elderly patients.In consideration of the benefit of LC,We recommend laparoscopic cholecystectomy for elderly patients.
