Clinical efficacy of blood circulation-activating and blood stasis-removing traditional Chinese medicine preparation in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a report of 37 cases

Abstract
Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of blood circulation-activating and blood stasis-removing traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) preparation in the patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods: Seventy-six patients with acute exacerbation of COPD were randomly divided into control group(n = 39) and treatment group(n = 37).The control group received conventional treatment,while the treatment group was given blood circulation-activating and blood stasis-removing TCM preparation in addition to the conventional treatment.Results: The treatment group showed significantly more improvement in C-reactive protein level,pulmonary function,and partial pressure of oxygen than the control group(P0.05 or P0.01).The total effective rate was 91.89% in the treatment group,compared with 84.61% in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion: Blood circulation-activating and blood stasis-removing TCM preparation has good clinical efficacy in the patients with acute exacerbation of COPD and shows promise for clinical application.
