Abstract
Objective: The study was conducted to investigate the socio-demographic characteristics of AIDS counseling and testing volunteers and the condition of HIV infection in Dali,in order to facilitate the development of AIDS health education and rist intervention plans in a targeted population in Dali.Methods: Data collected from the clients who visited the AIDS VCT clinic under the District Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2007 to 2008 were analyzed.Results: There were 1361 people seeking VCT services during the two-year period.13.44% were HIV positive.The HIV prevalence rate in 2007 and 2008 had no statistical significance.The 1361 counseling people were mainly young adults aged 20 to 40 years old,accounting for 64.95%.The male to female ratio was 1.27∶1.The HIV prevalence rate in the low eduated people was higher than in the high educated ones.The main reason for seeking VCT was sexual contact,extramarital intercourse in particular. Drug users had the highest HIV prevalence rate.Conclusion: HIV VCT is an effective way to get people to be aware of their sero-status and to implement effective prevention and care interventions for both HIV infected persons and AIDS patients.
