Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of p57KIP2 and cyclin E on the generation and progression of breast carcinoma by detecting their expressions in invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast. Methods In 64 cases of IDC,15 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS) ,and 15 cases of adjacent normal breast tissues, the expressions of p57KIP2 and cyclin E proteins were detected respectively by immunohistochemical SP methods. Results The expressions of p57KIP2 and cyclin E between IDC and DCIS,IDC and normal tissues, and the expression of cyclin E between DCIS and normal tissues had significant difference(P≤0. 05,P 0. 01). In IDC,the expressions of p57KIP2 and cyclin E were correlated with axillary lymph node metastasis(P0. 01 ,P≤0. 05) , but had no correlation with age(P0. 05) ,and the expression of cyclin E was related to tumor size(P0. 01). There was negative relationship between expression of p57KIP2 and cyclin E (P0. 01). Conclusion The decreased expression of p57KIP2 protein and over-expression of cyclin E might be important biological markers for malignant transformation in breast tissue and lymph node metastasis of breast carcinoma, and the abnormal expression of cyclin E was early event of breast carcinoma. The combined detection of p57KIP2 and cyclin E has positive effects on predicting the lymph node metastasis for breast carcinoma.
