Difference of clinical efficacy of topiramate and carbamazepine in the treatment of cerebral infarction with secondary epilepsy

Abstract
Objective To explore the difference of clinical efficacy of topiramate and carbamazepine in the treatment of cerebral infarction with secondary epilepsy. Methods 60 cases with epilepsy after cerebral infarction were selected from april 2010 to april,2012. and they were randomly divided into observation group and control group. topiramate was given to observation group. the course was 24 weeks. after 24 weeks,clinical efficacy was evaluated in two groups. Results The total effective rate in the observation group was 96.7%,the total effective rate in the control group was 70.0%,the total effective rate in the observation group compared with that in control group,the total effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in control group,the difference was statistically significant(P0.05). Conclusion Topiramate in treatment of cerebral infarction with secondary epilepsy has significantly clinical efficacy,and which is superior to carbamazepine.
