Abstract
Objective To explore the relation between left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and the parameter of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) , blood pressure variability, in hypertensive patients. Methods 75 essential hypertensive patients were selected. The ambulatory blood pressure was measured for 24 hours and the left ventricular mass indexes (LVMI) were measured with echocardiography according to Devereux's correction formula. Results The 24 hrs SBPV in essential hypertension (EH) patients with LVH were significantly lower than that in EH patients without LVH (P 0. 01). Left ventricular mass indexes (LVMI) in EH patients with LVH were correlated negatively with 24hrs SBPV, 24hDBPV, nSBPV and nDBPV, respectively. Conclusions The study suggests that the cardiovascular sympathovagal balance is impaired in EH patients with LVH. The BPV of EH patients may be associated with the degree of target organ damage.
