Analysis of Image of Xiao in Gong Zizhen's Poems

Abstract

Xiao(meaning bamboo flute) is a common image in the Chinese scholars' poems,which was used many times in Gong Zizhen's poems and formed combination of contrastive meaning with Jian(meaning sword).In Gong Zizhen's poems,Xiao was often considered as the poet's voice of worry about people and country and his hidden bitterness caused by not being employed by the imperial court.Besides,his Xiao had many connotations such as lonely unbosoming and hope of another life ideal.
