Farewell Poems of Gong Dingzi

The poems of Qian Qianyi,Wu Weiye and Gong Dingzi were engraved by Gu Youxiao and Zhao Yun of Wu River in 1667.Qian Qianyi,Wu Weiye and Gong Dingzi were named Three Great Poets in Jiang Zuo and their poems were collected into a book called Selected Works of the Three Great Poets in Wu River.There was beautiful and graceful quality in the poems of Qian and Wu and they were well known,but Gong Dingzi's poems were little-known.The number of farewell poems by Gong Dingzi is at least 838,even more than a quarter of the book.So it is extremely important for us to study all of his poems.Gong Dingzi's poems inherited farewell poem anthology and were also different from them in some sense: the rich theme,a large number of characters which included the person in or out of royal administration,the use of the form of rhyme of answering others,the use of series of poems.The poems often expressed the felling of the regret,shame and the miss for Ming Dynasty when he was an official of the Qing Dynasty.
