Abstract

Objective To determine the expression of MAGE-A3 and AKAP-4 in patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma(NSCLC) and to evaluate the possibility of exploiting them as biomarkers for diagnosis. Methods Indirect enzyme immunohistochemical method was performed on paraffin-embedded tissues from 45 patients with NSCLC,and the correlations between antigens expression and histological types as well as lymph node metastasis were evaluated. Results In 45 tumor samples, the sensitive of MAGE-A3 and AKAP-4 detection was 62.2% and 73.3%,respectively.Combined detection of both MAGE-A3 and AKAP-4 can significantly increase the sensitivity to 91.1%(P0.05).There was no significance difference in the expression of MAGE-A3 and AKAP-4 between lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell lung carcinoma. The expression of MAGE-A3 and AKAP-4 was not related to lymph node metastasis. Conclusion Both MAGE-A3 and AKAP-4 can be used to further increase the sensitivity of NSCLC diagnosis.
