Abstract

Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of amiodarone for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia(PSVT)or atrial fibrillation(AF)in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Methods 28 AMI patients with onset PSVT(n=8)or AF(n=20)were observed. After an intravenous load(75~150mg),intravenous amiodarone(0 5~1 0mg/min) was administered continuously.Efficacy of amiodarone in reversion of PSVT or AF as well as the side effects were observed. Results PSVT(n=8)and AF(n=14)were reverted to sinus rhythm with 24 hour in 22 of 28 cases(78 6%).Low blood pressure was observed in 7 cases, but all of them recovered after using dopamine or reducing the amiodarone dose.Dizziness occurred in 6 patients.Nausea and vomiting were observed in 3 patients.Phlebitis occurred in 2 patients. Conclusion Amiodarone is effective and safe agent for the treatment of PSVT or AF in patients with AMI.
