Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between expression of uncoupling proteins 2(UCP2) gene mRNA in the placenta and insulin resistance(IR) in preeclampsia patients.MethodsFasting maternal serum and umbilical cord blood insulin and blood glucose(Glu) were detected in 36 cases of normal pregnancy woman(group A),24 cases of mild preeclampsia(group B) and 17 cases of severe preeclampsia(group C).Expression of UCP2 gene mRNA in the placenta was detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR.Results The levels of umbilical cord Glu and insulin were significantly lower in group C than those in group A(P0.05).Expressions of UCP2 gene mRNA in the placenta in groups of B and C were(0.942±0.202) and(0.908±0.188),respectively,which were significantly lower than(1.908±0.283) in group A(P0.05).Conclusion The low expression of UCP2 gene mRNA in the placenta of preeclampsia patients may induce IR,which may play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of preeclampsia.
