The Japanese Factors and China’s Security Environment in the South China Sea Issue

Abstract

During the Cold War,Japan acknowledged China’s sovereignty over the South China Sea.After the Cold War,Japan began to intervene in the South China Sea dispute following the United States in 21stcentury.In order to ensure its needs of the security of sea lifelineand its economic interests and to scramble for the regional domination as well as to restrict China to defend the Chinese sovereignty over Diaoyu Islands and the demarcation issues of the East China Sea,the strategies that the Japanese took include: making a lot of opinion hype of Theory of China Threat;strengthening the cooperation with the Asia-Pacific countries which include the consolidation of the US-Japan alliance,the Association of the South-east Asian nations,the establishment of Japan and Vietnam's strategic cooperative partnership,to strengthen strategic relationship with Indonesia and the Philippines,and strategically intervening in the South China Sea.The intention of Japanese intervention in the South China Sea is to internationalize the South China Sea issue and to increase the difficulty in solving the problem as well as to stop the China’s pace heading for the ocean,which seriously threaten the sovereignty of China's water territories.How to balance the Japanese factor is a big challenge for China in order to resolve the South China Sea issue.
