Abstract

By using measure and analysis in biological software,we observed the histological changes in ovarian development of two species of Catantopidae(Orthoptera:Acridoidea),which were Calliptamus abbreviatus.and Shirakiacris shirakii. The results showed that the volume and shape of oocyte of the two species had acute changes in oogenesis, especially in vitellogenesis, and the oocyte volume increased slowly at the beginning and quickly at the end of oogenesis. The nuclear development of oocyte had great changes at the beginning and without significant changes in the later periods. The volume of follicles arrived at the top along with vitellogenesis and degenerated after vitellogenesis. There were different development phases between two species of locusts by comparing their changes at every stage of oogenesis.
