Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of Telmisartan on blood pressure and its influence on endothelial function of the brachial artery in patients with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension. Methods 31 patients with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension(the treatment group) had been treated with telmisartan for 8 weeks,and 20 healthy volunteers were collected as control(the control group).The flow-meditated-vasodilation of the brachial artery in 2 groups was measured by vascular Doppler ultrasonic technique. Results Blood pressure in the treatment group was significantly lowered after treatment than that before treatment(P0.05).The total effective hypotensive rate was 71%.FMD in the treatment group before treatment with telmisartan was significantly lower than that in the control group(P0.05).FMD in the treatment group after treatment with telmisartan was significantly higher than that in the treatment group before treatment with telmisartan(P0.05),however,FMD in the treatment group after treatment with telmisartan was still lower than that in the control group(P0.05). Conclusion Telmisartan can lower blood pressure and improve endothelial function.
