Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Telmisartan on vascular endothelial function in patients with essential hypertension. Methods Forty-six patients with essential hypertension had been treated with 80mg Telmisartan per day for 6 weeks . Plasma ET-1 and NO were measured before and 6 weeks after treatment . Forty healthy adults served as controls. Result Before medication , ET-1 was higher and NO lower in treatment group than control group (P0.05). In treatment group , ET-1 was significantly decreased and NO was significantly increased 6 weeks after treatment with Telmisartan (P0.05) There was significant difference before and after treatment. Conclusion Telmisartan may improve the vascular endothelial function of patients with essential hypertension .
