Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of resveratrol on the myelonic neuronal apoptosis in the forepart of spinal cord injury. Methods: Sixty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups including normal control, mode control, injury group, resveratrol(RES) treatment group and methylprednisolone sodium succinate(MPSS) treatment group. After the model of moderate spinal cord injury was established according to the Allen's method,resveratrol(100 mg/kg) or methylprednisolone sodium succinate(100 mg/kg) was injected immediately by intraperitioneal injection. Results: The apoptotic cells were less detected in the RES group than in the injury group at 8,24 and 72 h after spinal cord injury(all P0.01).And the similar changes were also observed in MPSS group(P0.05 at 8 h,and both P0.01 at 24 and 72 h).There were no difference in apoptotic cell counts in spinal cord between the RES group and MPSS group(P0.05).Conclusion: Resveratrol could restrain the apoptosis of the neurons after spinal cord injury. Therefore, resveratrol can protect the spinal cord in the forepart of spinal cord injury.
