Determination of Chloramphenicol by Single Sweep Oscillopolarography

Abstract

In a supporting electrolyte containing 0.3 mol/L KCl (pH 6.5),a sensitive derivative(reduction) wave of chloramphenicol(CAP) with peak potential-840 mV(vs.SCE) was observed by single sweep oscillopolarography.The secondary,derivative peak current of the reduction wave was linear to CAP concentration in the range of 0.075~0.250 mg/L(r=0.998 6).The detection limit was 0.025 mg/L.The CAP concentrations in medicines such as eye liquid,injections,tablets,and in fish blood were measured with the established method.In addition,the method was compared with UV spectrophotometry and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).The results showed that the single sweep oscillopolarography could be used for the determination of CAP in these samples.
