Abstract
Objective: To investigate the antiviral activities of the recombinant cyanovirin-N(CV-N) against coxsackie virus group B3(CVB3).Methods: The antiviral activities of CV-N in Vero cells were assessed by observation of cytotoxicity and cytopathic effect(CPE) and by MTT colorimetric assay of cell proliferation.Results: CV-N had slight cytotoxic effect on Vero cells(TC50 = 359 μg/ml) and no direct inactivation on CVB3.It was more effective than Ribavirin in preventing CVB3adsorption to Vero cells but showed no obvious inhibitory effect on CVB3 replication in host cells.Conclusion: CV-N exhibited a pronounced antiviral activity against CVB3 in the early stage of viral infection,and could be used to prevent CVB3 infection.
