Abstract
Objective:To evaluate effects of early enteral nutrition(EN)by jejunal feeding tube on severe acute pancreatitis. Methods:Thirty-eight patients with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP),who didn't receive operation treatment, were divided into to- tal parenteral nutrition(TPN)group(n=26)and EN group(n=12).The patients in TPN group were given TPN until they com- pletely recovered eating by mouth and patients in the EN group were immediately given EN after recovery of gastrointestinal function. Results:The incidence of infection, complication rate, average remission time of abdominal distention, average hospital stay and aver- age hospitalization cost were significantly less in EN group than in TPN group(P0.05).There was no statistical difference in mor- tality between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion:EN is an important therapeutic tool for SAP.It is safe and effective that pa- tients are immediately given EN after the recovery of gastrointestinal function.
