Abstract
Objective To discuss the effects of early enteral nutrition(EN) in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis. Methods Patients with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) were divided into total parenteral nutrition(TPN) group(n =17) and EN group(n = 18).Patients in TPN group were given TPN until completely recovered eating by mouth and patients in the EN group were early given EN.Results The incidence of infection, complication rate, average remission time of abdominal distention, average hospital stay and average hospitalization cost were significantly less in EN group than that in TPN group(P 0.05).There was no statistical difference in mortality between the two groups(P 0.05).Conclusion EN is an important therapeutic tool for SAP.It is safe and effective that patients are early given EN.
