After the reunification of Xinjiang in the Qing Dynasty,the internal stability and external defense in the northwest border faced crises.The Qing Dynasty carried out the settlement strategy of the North advancing the South,which changed the Xinjiang socio-economic situation and made the North Xinjiang the economic center.The settlement strategy not only protected the safety of the northwestern frontier but also effectively resisted the invasion of Russia.At the same time,the neglect of settlement in the South Xinjiang left potential problems of social stability and economic development in Xinjiang.
