Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy and adverse effects of all-trans retinoic acid(ATRA) plus arsenic trioxide(As2O3) with ATRA in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia(APL). Methods 46 patients in the treatment group were treated with ATRA combined with As2O3, 30 patients in the compare group were treated with ATRA, then compare the outcome and adverse effects between the two groups. Results The time achieving complete remission by ATRA combined with As2O3 is (26.2±4.0) days, but that time of patients only treated with ATRA is (49.5±8.5) days, there is significant difference (P 0.05). But there is not obvious difference in the adverse effects between the two groups(P 0.05). Conclusion The complete remission time of APL contracts dramaticly by administering ATRA combined with As2O3, and this regimen had lower toxic reactions.
