Abstract
Objective To investigate the mechanism of valsartan in protecting the kidney in type 2 diabetic rats. Methods The fat fed ,strepozotocin treated rats were served as experimental animal model. Adult female Sprague Dawley rats ( n =10 in each group) were studied:normal control rats, diabetic rats and diabetic rats treated with valsartan (10 mg· -1 ·d -1 , Plasma glucose, serum insulin, serum creatinine, urinary albumin,BUN and profile of kidney hypertrophy were observed after 10 weeks of treatment. PAI 1 protein expression was measured by immunohistochemistry. Results Urinary albumin excretin( P 0.01)、BUN( P 0.05)and kidney hypertrophy index( P 0.05)of valsartan treated group were significantly lower than those of diabetic group. The protein expression of PAI 1 in the valsartan group was lower than that in the diabetic group. Conclusion Valsartan may has kidney protective effect on diabetic rats, partly through down regulated PAI 1expression
