Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of different treatment timings at early mixed dentition and early permanent dentition on Angle Ⅲ malocclusion.Methods Twenty six patients with Angle Ⅲ malocclusion were selected and applied protraction in combination with traction arch for six months. Cephalometric radiographs were taken before and after the treatment.Results Significant changes of maxillae moving forward were observed in all 26 cases: SNA was increased 2.2°±0.3°, point A was moved forward 3.3mm±1.3mm, and maxillary center incisor was moved labially 3.8mm±1.2mm. Significant differences, more skeletal changes and less dental changes, were observed in early mixed dentition.Conclusion Protraction combined with the traction arch was a simple and effective treatment approach that plays an important role in the treatment of Angle Ⅲ malocclusion. The treatment time of early mixed dentition was more effective than that of early permanent dentition.
