Abstract
The relevance theory defines the verbal communication as an ostensive-inferential process, and so is the theory of the relevance and translation, which believes translation is also an ostensive-inferential communication process. To be faithful to the original communication, the translator must have the same informative and communicative intention as the original author, that is, the same assumption of mutual manifest. Therefore, the principle of ostensive-inferential translation communication and equal inferential space is put forward. This paper is to discuss the how the principle of equal inferential space manifested in the Wisdom of China edited by Lin Yutang.
