Expression and Significance of HIF-1αand VEGF in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Abstract

Objective We examined the expression of HIF-1αgene and its relationship with VEGF protein in non-small lung cancer.Methods Immunohistochemical was used to examine the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF in68NSCLC tissue section .Results Positive HIF-1αand VEGF expression was noted62% and69.1% in68NSCLC tissue section respectively. In20cases of non-malignant tissue sections, HIF- 1αexpression was not detected and VEGF expression was only in2cases. The result showed:(1)there was no significant difference among age, sex, histopathological type, tumor size(P 0.05).(2) Tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage correlated with the expression of HIF-1αand VEGF(P0.01).(3) HIF-1αlevel positively correlated with VEGF level(P 0.01).Conclusion The detection of VEGF and HIF-1αplay an important role in prognosis and treatment of NSCLC.
